06/03/2016 – Parakeet-Sugar Rush (2016)

This is everything we’re expect from Parakeet and more!

Parakeet have never played by the rules. That is what always made them an exciting project. Everything was on the table and nothing is off limits. On new single Sugar Rush they’ve pushed the envelope even further and released the track they’ve always hinted at.

Opening to swaths of slicing chainsaw-esque guitars, until singer and bassist Mariko Doi unveils a gargantuan riff and James Thomas’ scatter shot drumming give Sugar Rush the hooks needs to tame the unyielding intro. After this salvo Doi’s sugary sweet lyrics kick in and give everything a pop sheen that juxtapositions perfectly with the heavy onslaught!

What makes Parakeet such an exciting prospect is that this is Doi or Thomas’ day jobs, this is their collective side projects, Doi is in Yuck and Thomas Joya. Thanks to this freedom they can take more risks and not have to worry about having the ‘hit’ single.

Sugar Rush is taken from their debut album KASA, and if this is anything to go by, it’ll be chocked full of in your face music and insightful thought provoking lyrics. Classic Parakeet in other words!

KASA is released on April 22nd on Lunar Ruins.
