FEWS look set to throw off the shackles of anonymity in 2016
Earlier this year FEWS exploded into our consciousness with the eight minute monster single ILL, produced by Dan Carey and released through Carey’s Speedy Wunderground imprint. They’re returned, again with Carey at the helm, to release The Zoo. Like Ill it’s a jaunt through droney motorik, but this time it’s more concise and streamlined, almost pop at times. Opening with a detuned guitar, it quickly finds the right groove and stays into until the end and while it’s pretty ragged in places, and almost falls under its own weighty ideas in places, it is rammed full of catchy melodies and driving rhythm that keeps it going until its logical conclusion.
What the Zoo demonstrates is that FEWS have something to say and an excellent grasp on composition and with Carey in charge they are the real deal. 2016 looks set to be the year FEWS throw off the shackles of anonymity and step fully into the public’s regard!
