14/11/2015 – Morning Smoke-Soft Decay (2015)

Morning Smoke release their strongest single to date

Morning Smoke manage to combine two contrasting schools of thought. Walls of wailing feedback and sublime pop hooks. This is personified on their latest single Soft Decay. From the outset chugging guitars mix with forceful vocals, while at the same time dripping in an optimism seldom seen. A reason for this majestic sounding song, no offence to Morning Smoke, is the man behind the mixing desk, thisyearinmusic’s favourite current producer Rory Attwell. Through Attwell’s understanding of visceral pop, Morning Smoke have released firstly their best song to date and secondly one of the songs of the year. What makes Soft Decay such a vital song is the how intricate bass intertwines with the foaming drums and ingrained guitars, all underpinned by heart felt vocals. Next year looks set to be a great year for Morning Smoke, and everyone here at thisyearinmusic can’t wait to hear what they do next!
