London producer Club Kuru channels off kilter R&B pop on current single
Laurie Erskine appears to be a man on a mission. He appears to be single handedly converting anyone and everyone that listens to his Club Kuru output, to his laid back R&B skewed pop. This is everything Years and Years have tried to do, but failed miserably at.
On latest single Layla, the prelude for the Layla EP, released later this month on Believe Recordings, Erskine has manged to nestle massive pop hooks next to brooding basslines and laidback beats and sublime production. While it’s not as slick, as say Taylor McFerrin, there is still plenty to get excited about and in a world where landfill indie and boring safe pop is the order of the day, this is a very welcome change!
