160th Boatrace will take place on a Sunday, as long as it goes without a hitch it would be a close race
Not only is it the Grand National this weekend, but as an added bonus it’s the Oxford Cambridge Boatrace on Sunday. This year makes the 160th race between these two rival universities. I think it should be another Cambridge win (the current score is 81-77 in Cambridge’s favour), but Oxford have pulled off surprises before. One of the most interesting fact about the Boatrace is that there has only been one draw. This happened in 1877. Of course this was before on the line technology so, if it happened now there would be a winner (probably quite contentiously). As much as I love technology I do love the thrill of a Boatrace draw. Sadly I can’t see this happening this year.
Today’s song has nothing to do with the Boatrace. In all honesty I don’t really know what it’s about, apart from listing places and having a chorus of ‘Sail Away’. It seems quite fitting to play for tomorrow’s race. One of the best versions of this song I heard was on the latest series of Moone Boy. For those of you not in the know this programme is about a small boy living in rural Ireland in the 1990’s. In one episode he decides to build a raft with his best friend (and their imaginary friends) on Halloween, float through the town and scare people. During their ride they decide to sing a song. And they pick Orinoco Flow.
All that is left for me to do is say Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away!
