Two members of The Yellow Dogs were murdered last night in Brooklyn. The information is scratchy but it appears that the guitarist Soroush Farazmand , drummer Arash Farazmand, their manager Ali Salehezadeh and a friend Ali Eskandarian were shot dead by Raefe Akhbar (who then turned the gun on himself). No one quite knows why Raefe Akhbar went on this killing spree, but there are reports that he was once in the band.
The Yellow Dogs made their name in the film No One Knows About Persian Cats (which is a documentary about rock bands in Iran). In 2010 the band went to American (where they had asylum).
This news is as shocking as it is disturbing. The Yellow Dogs were a great band who looked like they had a bright future. I never got a chance to see them live, but the videos of their live performances looked amazing.
